Teacher Pathway pairs teacher candidates with master educators who work with their mentees to ensure they are prepared for teacher education programs, including applying for financial aid, understanding the time requirements of their teacher preparation program, arranging for childcare and transportation, test preparation, etc. For example, PEF is partnering with Study.com to provide free test preparation materials for 100 mentees to help them prepare for and pass their teacher certification tests. We aim to ensure mentees meet the requirements for admittance to UNLV’s tuition-free Paraprofessional Pathway Project (PPP), where they can finish their bachelor’s degree and obtain their teaching certification. PEF and its partners will assist participants with mentoring, financial assistance, test preparation, and other supports to overcome common barriers experienced on the journey to becoming a teacher.
